THE RUINED LANDSCAPE AND THE TEXT
In a documentary filmed by the director named Zhou Hao, "Mayor of China", Shanxi Datong, a coal-producing city in northern China, encountered a demolition in order to build new tourist attractions. In the film, the relationship between Mayor Geng Yanbo and officials, relocated residents, construction teams and family members constitutes a difficult scene for communication. In addition, with the interference of media and technology in this incident, people I have studied and experienced this real event also think that the theme of demolition is intriguing.
Later, the mayor in the film was transferred to Taiyuan, 300 kilometers away, and did the same. I was fortunate to take photos before some old houses were demolished and used them as archives and materials in my work.
This work is in progress, and I am trying to separate the image elements from the "visual memory" aspect.
